Require Tornado Shelters in All Mobile Home Communities to Protect Lives

The Issue

Mobile home communities are among the most vulnerable places to be during a tornado — and it’s costing lives.

Every year, families living in mobile homes face a terrifying reality when severe storms strike: they have nowhere safe to go. Unlike permanent homes, mobile homes offer almost no protection against tornadoes. This isn’t just a safety issue — it’s a human rights issue.

I’m starting this petition to demand that local and state officials require tornado shelters in every mobile home community. These shelters should be large enough for all residents, accessible to those with disabilities, and properly maintained to be ready when disaster strikes.

This matters because lives are at stake. Too many tragedies have already happened, and it’s unacceptable for anyone to live without access to a safe shelter during extreme weather.

We’re calling on city councils, county governments, state housing authorities, and mobile home park owners to:

Install FEMA-compliant storm shelters in every mobile home park.
Ensure shelters are accessible, safe, and maintained.
Keep shelters open and available during tornado watches and warnings.

No family should have to gamble with their lives when the sirens go off. Everyone deserves the right to safety.

Sign this petition today and help protect the lives of people in mobile home communities before the next storm comes.
