While we wait to hear whether a judge will let our claim go forward for judicial review, there's another big cause for concern for people in North London. Camden Council and property developers YooCapital have a proposal for a 370 ft block of 'stacked studio' to go on the present Regis Road trading estate in Kentish Town. This is opposed by the Heath and Hampstead society and the Kentish Town Neighbourhood Forum . One reason is that objectors see this as a kind of Trojan horse. It's nearly as high as Centrepoint or the Millbank Tower (384 and 387 feet respectively), and the development also includes proposals for 29 storey luxury flats. Normally film studios are in areas like Docklands where the necessary transport links won't add to congestion, and this looks very like a gimmick designed to overcome objections to high rise flats (which are increasingly unattractive to home buyers) and development that will spoil views from Hampstead Heath. This isn't about people objecting to all development -- one of the objectors is literally a developer: Joseph Homes, who are co-owners of the Regis Road site and who don't want to be forced to build up and up because so much of the site is taken up with this lumbering white elephant. Please sign the petition against the Camden Film Quarter so that when Camden's planning committee meet next month they have ample proof of the public mood.
