Petition updateRequire the City of London to retain current cafe operatorsApart from another grumpy press release from the City of London, has it gone a bit quiet?

Here's the latest: a fortnight ago Hoxton Beach filed its claim asking for a judicial review of the City of London Corporation's decision, taken effectively last December 8, to take all the five North London Open Space cafés out of the hands of their current operators. As of March 21, four are still as they were, but the Parliament Hill Fields Café, which was run by the D'Auria family, is closed and undergoing building work after the D'Aurias agreed to transfer it to Daisy Green. Meanwhile the family D'Aurias' coffee van is open but now run by Daisy Green.

The next stage is for a judge to look at the Hoxton Beach claim and decide if it's 'arguable' -- is there a good enough case for it to go to a full hearing.

The City had paused eviction proceedings to allow the Hoxton Beach legal team to put their evidence together. But last week they put out an apress release sa ying they would go ahead and try for a possession order in the County Court. Such an order, even if granted, might well be paused pending the outcome of the Judicial Review.

This sort of legal to-and-fro can draw attention away from the bigger questions.  From one perspective, these have disappeared into legal documents waiting for judges to look at them. But there are developments, and frustratingly, this isn't the time to air them. But please accept our deep thanks for all your help, your vital financial contributions that have powered the legal challenge, and do please ask anyone who hasn't yet signed to click the signature tab on this petition.
