Require Tenderloin Housing Clinic to Provide Free WiFi for All Subsidized/Supportive Housing Tenants

The Issue

I am a resident of the Tenderloin district in San Francisco, California. Like many others here, I rely on subsidized and supportive housing provided by the Tenderloin Housing Clinic. We are grateful for the roof over our heads, but we also need access to the digital world to improve our lives.

In today's society, internet access is not a luxury; it's a necessity. It allows us to search for jobs, pursue education from primary school through college, and stay connected with loved ones. However, many of us in subsidized housing do not have this essential tool due to financial constraints.

According to Pew Research Center data from 2019, 44% of adults with household incomes below $30k don't have broadband services at home (source: Pew Research Center). This lack of connectivity hinders their ability to participate fully in an increasingly digital society.

We believe that providing free WiFi for all tenants would be an essential step towards ensuring equity and giving everyone a fair chance at being productive online. By doing so, Tenderloin Housing Clinic can help bridge the digital divide that disproportionately affects low-income individuals like us.

We urge you – residents of San Francisco or anyone who believes in equal opportunities – sign this petition and support our call for free WiFi in all subsidized/supportive housing managed by Tenderloin Housing Clinic. Together we can make a difference!
