Require Stricter Penalties for Juvenile Offenders committing Violent Crimes

The Issue

On October 28, 2023, My youngest son entire life changed after seven juvenile offenders jumped and brutally beat him. As Devin tried to get away from being beaten, several juveniles waited outside, recording the horrifying scene, as Devin was beaten to unconsciousness. The damage was severe; Devin suffered two black eyes, a swollen nose, a laceration on his left eyelid and required stitches, contusions down his face and throat, scrapes and cuts down his back, and worst of all, a severe concussion that caused a mild traumatic brain injury.  Devin was jumped because he has red hair and blue eyes.

A mere four days later on November 1, 2023, Johnathon Lewis was jumped and brutally beaten to death in Las Vegas. I have been screaming that should’ve the police responded quicker and apprehended the juvenile offenders after Devin was jumped and brutally beaten on October 28, 2023, there is a possibility Johnathon Lewis would be alive.

Despite the gravity of these actions, the penalties the juvenile offenders received were inadequate and simply failed to reflect the severity of their crime. This is a systemic issue - the State of Nevada currently does not impose sufficiently strict punishments for juvenile offenders committing violent crimes.

In 2019, it was reported that juveniles commit 16.1% of the violent crimes in Nevada, significantly higher than the national average of 12.4% (source: U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics), yet our justice system seems unprepared or unwilling to address this growing concern appropriately.

Our sons and daughters deserve to live in a society that values their safety over the efforts to reform juvenile offenders whom have proven a readiness to commit serious violent acts. This isn't about denying juvenile offenders a chance at rehabilitation - it is about ensuring the proper punitive measures are undertaken to reflect the seriousness of the juvenile offenders actions.

Please sign this petition to join us in urging lawmakers in Nevada to reassess the current juvenile crime penalties law. This desperately needs to change to ensure the juvenile offenders committing violent crimes bear the weight of their actions and understand the severity. Our children's safety depends on your support.  Sign now to demand stricter penalties for violent juvenile offenders in our state.

Due to this particular crime and tragedy that happened to Devin on October 28, 2023, my entire family has been threatened with written and verbal threats of physical harm after I had asked for a harsher penalty on the juvenile offenders during a sentencing hearing held on May 14, 2024.  I also had to take off from work to attend juvenile delinquency hearings, whereas, I provided victim impact statements on behalf of my four children but restitution doesn’t allow for lost wages from juvenile offenders.

Me and my four children are somewhat protected with the no contact orders against three of the juvenile offenders, associated gang members, all third parties, and social media websites.

On May 24, 2024, I had to watch my oldest son remotely graduate from high school but thereafter I had to watch several uncharged juvenile offenders graduate, even though Devin has fallen behind in school due to the amounts of severe trauma he suffered.  Devin even had to drop out of school since he had fallen so far behind as he had been bounced around from three different schools after October 28, 2023.

My eighteen year old son has had severe seizures and was also approached at Palo Verde High School.

My only daughter has been horribly bullied and called racial slurs at school.

Tye had googled me but wasn’t ever charged even though had partaken in the jumping of Devin on October 28, 2023.

Jaylin wasn’t ever charged even though had partaken in the jumping of Devin on October 28, 2023.

Aiden wasn’t ever charged even though had partaken in the jumping of Devin on October 28, 2023.

Elijah Holgate wasn’t ever charged even though had conspired and partaken in the jumping of Devin on October 28, 2023.

I had also starred in Sin City Rules, but it was cancelled without the recommissioning of additional episodes on January 1, 2013.  Please know that the interview Michelle LaFong did was scripted since was specially scheduled for Sin City Rules in 2012.

So think about my upset reaction after I’d found and watched the videos posted to social media of Devin being jumped and brutally beaten in Summerlin on October 28, 2023.
