The Issue

Living in St. George, Utah, specifically in the Bloomington Hills North area, we take pride in our family-oriented community. However, the safety of our children and neighbors is at risk due to the inadequately high speed limit on Fort Pierce Drive—a residential street with no sidewalks.

As a concerned parent, this issue is deeply personal to me as well as critical for the safety of everyone in our community. Currently, Fort Pierce Drive stands as the only street in St. George where the speed limit is 30 mph, despite lacking sidewalks and being situated in a housing community. Alarmingly, many drivers exceed this limit, with speeds often reaching 40-50 mph, creating a hazardous environment for pedestrians, especially young children.

According to state law, the speed limit in residential areas should be 25 mph unless otherwise posted. Yet, Fort Pierce Drive remains an anomaly, placing our community in unnecessary danger. Lowering the speed limit to 20-25 mph aligns with legal standards and significantly reduces risks for families who rely on street access in the absence of sidewalks.

We urge city officials to take immediate action by implementing this straightforward yet impactful change. With lower speed limits, we can reduce speeding, encourage driver awareness, and most importantly, ensure the safety of our residents, particularly the vulnerable children.

Please support our campaign to protect our community and create a safer neighborhood for our children. Sign this petition to advocate for a reduced speed limit on Fort Pierce Drive, aligning with residential safety standards. Your signature could make a lasting difference for all of us living in St. George.
