The Issue

Require SIA to Redesign Security Licence Cards to Protect Officer Safety
Security officers across the UK are being put at risk by the licence they must wear. The current SIA licence card displays the officer’s full name and licence number on the front, making it easy for anyone to see, photograph, and potentially misuse their details.

This is no longer acceptable in today’s world of rising confrontations, aggression towards staff, and personal data exploitation.

We are calling on the SIA to modernise the design of the security licence card.

What we propose:
Front of the card:

Officer photo
Expiry date
Licence type
SIA logo and hologram
QR code linking to official verification (without showing name or licence number directly)

Back of the card:

Full name
Licence number
SUA Key Identifier (KIGI)
Barcode for official use

This approach balances the need for public identification while protecting officers’ personal safety and data privacy.

Why is this important?
I work in the security industry and have seen countless officers tell me how exposed they feel having their name and licence number on display. Some have even been followed home, harassed online, or had their information captured without their consent.

Officer safety starts with the tools we give them; the licence card is the first line of defence.

Other professions, such as police, enforcement, and military staff, have long understood the need to protect personal details from public display. It's time the security industry caught up.

Let’s protect those who protect us.
