The Issue

Children, parents, and our most vulnerable deserve to feel safe in their homes without the lurking fear of dangerous predators in proximity. In Hall County, NE, it is my deep concern and conviction that the community should take a stand for the safety and well-being of our children.

Currently, the proximity of registered sex offenders to schools, parks, and daycare facilities in Hall County poses a significant risk to the safety of our children. This is vastly different than most of the states in our country, as Nebraska is one of the only states that does not already have this law.

Currently, there is no restriction in place for where sex offenders are allowed to live in Hall County, Nebraska.

Our children should not be afraid to play at local parks, walk to school, or spend time in the safety of child care facilities because of these potential threats. It is imperative for registered sex offenders to be required by law to live no less than 2000 feet away from any schools, parks, or daycare facilities.

According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, there are about 850,000 registered sex offenders in the United States, and their proximity to areas designed for children has been linked to higher risks of reoffending. Implementing a 2000-foot restriction policy is an actionable safeguard that has been effective in other counties and states, thereby reducing the likelihood of repeat offenses and providing peace of mind to concerned parents and guardians.

By increasing the buffer zone between sex offenders and places where children gather, we can significantly reduce the chances of tragic incidents and contribute to a safer environment. Let us work closely with local representatives to enact this legislation and ensure the protection of Hall County's youth.

I urge local officials, policymakers, and community members to prioritize this pressing issue. Stand with me and let your voices be heard for the sake of our children's safety. Please sign this petition to support the mandatory distancing of registered sex offenders from schools, parks, and daycare facilities in Hall County, Nebraska.
