Require Schools to Teach Relevant Curriculum Aligned with Subject Matter

The Issue

During the academic year 2023-2024 at Coronado High School, my culinary class deviated starkly from its intended focus. Instead of learning about culinary experiences and techniques, valuable class time was consumed discussing programs linked to the Family Career Consumer Leaders of America, and activities aimed at identifying personality colors. This illustrates the issue: schools include extraneous material to the subject being taught. The value of learning lies in receiving accurate and relevant knowledge, enabling students to excel in their academics and future pursuits. Unfortunately, a distraction from the precise subject poses an unnecessary barrier.

The United States consistently scores lower than many other countries in international assessments of educational achievement. A study by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) found that U.S. high school seniors are slipping in math and barely making progress in reading. We cannot afford to distract students with irrelevant curricula. Learning needs to be streamlined and focused.

We petition the administrators of schools - from local to state level - to uphold the importance of teaching correct, subject-aligned curriculum and eliminate unnecessary material. Education must be relevant, effective, and pragmatic for both present requirements and future success.

Help us bring about this critical change in our education system. Your signature can make a difference. Stand for quality education - sign this petition today!

So with that, I petition the Colorado Springs District 11 school board of education.
