Require Schools to Refrain from Showing Prager U Content in RST schools

The Issue

As a Lakotah Catholic student, I am deeply concerned about the growing presence of Prager U videos in school curricula across the United States. These videos promote a specific political ideology, presenting subjective and often misleading viewpoints as objective facts. States like Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma have already approved Prager U content for classrooms, and there is a real risk that these materials will further distort history, undermine Indigenous cultures, and misrepresent Catholic actions.

Prager U's content has already presented troubling narratives, such as its portrayal of Andrew Jackson, where they claimed "he had no other choice" in carrying out policies like the Trail of Tears. This defense of Jackson's actions minimizes the responsibility of colonialism and settler colonial practices that caused the forced relocation and suffering of Indigenous peoples.

Additionally, there is a growing concern that Prager U may soon begin defending the actions of the Catholic Church in its historical dealings with Indigenous peoples. The Church’s involvement in colonization, forced conversions, and the systemic erasure of Native spiritual practices cannot be brushed aside as a simple case of “saving heathens.” While Prager U has not yet produced content on this issue, there is a real danger that they could frame these historical crimes as benevolent acts, overlooking the violence and oppression involved.

As a Lakotah Catholic, I know well the complex history of my people—the intersection of faith and culture, the forced conversions, and the resilience of our communities in the face of colonization. Prager U’s potential defense of such actions would harm both Indigenous and Catholic students by distorting the reality of history and erasing the pain and suffering that was inflicted on our ancestors.

This is not about silencing perspectives, but about ensuring that the education we receive is rooted in truth and respects the full complexity of our shared past. Prager U’s content lacks academic rigor and often presents a revisionist history that ignores Indigenous voices and experiences.

We must act now to protect Indigenous and Catholic students from a future where our histories are distorted for political purposes. Join me in urging schools to remove Prager U content from classrooms and advocate for an education that respects and honors the diverse experiences of all students. Sign this petition today.
