Currently in New Zealand there is not a policy that requires primary education institutions to teach the current issues with our environment in New Zealand and the world. 

As current high school students in New Zealand we recognise the effect of a lack of environmental education on our nations students and tamariki. From general observations, we can witness the general apathy towards to environment from youth. 

We believe that if our countries tamariki are properly educated at a young age about our species' effect on the environment, then they are more likely to gain or develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the environment and understand methods and ways to decrease their negative impacts on the environment. We understand that the simple act of educating our children will not reverse the current damage inflicted towards our environment, but it will be one step in the right way, and one to a safer and cleaner environment.
