The Issue

As a resident of Negros Oriental, and a parent of a 10-month-old baby who suffers from skin asthma, I am deeply concerned with the frequent and prolonged power outages caused by NORTHERN NEGROS ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE II (NORECO II). Just yesterday, the power outage lasted for 24 hours, causing discomfort and stress to my child and many others relying on electricity for essential needs.

In recent months, the power interruptions in our area have not only become more frequent but also increasingly unbearable. This issue affects not just infants and individuals with health conditions, but entire households, businesses, and the local economy.

Statistics show that reliable electricity is crucial to maintaining the quality of life and economic stability. According to a study by the International Energy Agency, consistent power supply boosts economic activity and enhances business productivity significantly.

The frequent outages we face with NORECO II's service interrupt essential medical equipment, spoil perishable goods, disrupt children's education, and hinder economic opportunities for businesses that need a stable power supply to operate effectively.

It’s important to highlight that power outages should not be a normalized inconvenience but rather seen as a significant issue that requires immediate attention and solutions. NORECO II must prioritize consumer needs and invest in infrastructure upgrades, staff training, and better management practices to ensure reliable electricity service.

We urge NORECO II to commit to the following improvements:
- Implement regular maintenance schedules to prevent unexpected power failures.
- Communicate transparently with consumers about planned outages.
- Invest in modern technology to improve service reliability.
