Require military service and age limits for U.S. Presidents

The Issue

The President of the United States serves as Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces. Yet today, a person can become President without ever serving a single day in uniform — and without demonstrating that they are physically and mentally capable of the role.

This petition calls for a Constitutional Amendment to restore essential standards of leadership:

✅ Minimum 2 years active-duty military service with an Honorable Discharge

✅ Age 40 to 70 on Inauguration Day

Here is the proposed amendment language:

Section 1.

No person shall be elected President of the United States unless that person has served on active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States for a minimum period of two years and received an Honorable Discharge.

Section 2.

Qualifying active duty military service shall be defined by Congress, including standards for verification and eligibility.

Section 3.

No person shall be elected President of the United States who has not attained the age of forty years on the date of inauguration.

Section 4.

No person shall be elected President of the United States who has attained the age of seventy years on the date of inauguration.

Section 5.

Congress shall have the authority to enforce this article through appropriate legislation.

Why this matters:

• Leaders should understand the cost of war before ordering Americans into combat

• Service before power builds humility, discipline, and accountability

• Age limits protect the nation’s security and decision-making stability

America deserves leaders who have proven their commitment to the nation — not just their ambition.

If you agree that future Presidents must be fit to lead and forged by service, please sign and share.

Let’s restore integrity and strength to our highest office.
