A former Fox News staffer's death has reignited hard questions about what actually happens to employees after they report workplace misconduct. In 2020, the employee filed a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment and retaliation, saying she was fired weeks after raising concerns about her work environment. Fox News denied the allegations against the company and was later dismissed from the case; the employee and the network's former anchor settled their portion of the lawsuit in 2025. Whatever the full truth of one case, the pattern it points to is bigger than any single company: employees who come forward often face years of legal battles, professional isolation, and mounting personal strain, with little formal support once the complaint is filed and the headlines move on.

Media companies set their own internal standards for how harassment complaints are handled, investigated, and followed up on. That leaves too much room for inconsistency, and too little accountability when an employee's wellbeing falls through the cracks after they've done the hard thing and spoken up.

This petition calls on major media employers, including Fox Corporation, to commit to three concrete changes: independent, third-party review of harassment complaints instead of purely internal investigation; enforceable whistleblower protections that shield employees from retaliation during and after a complaint; and guaranteed access to mental health support for employees involved in a workplace misconduct case, for as long as that support is needed.
