Require McGill to Change Convocation Location for 2025 Graduates

Require McGill to Change Convocation Location for 2025 Graduates
The Issue
McGill University recently sent a distressing email on May 8, 2025, announcing a severe limitation for our convocation ceremony—we are restricted to just two tickets per graduate. Families have planned for this monumental day months in advance, and now their efforts to attend the celebration of our incredible achievements may all be for naught.
The reason behind this sudden restriction is McGill’s decision not to host the 2025 convocation on the expansive and accommodating lower-field, as was customarily done in prior years. Instead, McGill's administration opted for a much smaller venue within the Field House. This decision, while perhaps more convenient for the university, is in no way beneficial to the students or their families who have supported them throughout their academic journey.
The graduation ceremony is not just a milestone for graduates, but a moment of pride and celebration for families and loved ones who have been integral to each student's success. Restricting access due to venue limitations deprives them of participating in a shared, joyous occasion, and disregards the significance of this life-defining moment for all involved.
It's disappointing to witness our university showcase disorganization through such inconsiderate planning. We, the 2025 graduating class, alongside our disheartened families, call upon McGill University to rectify this situation and relocate the 2025 convocation to a more accommodating and traditional venue, like the lower-field, where all loved ones of graduates can be present.
Help us urge McGill's administration to reconsider their decision for a more inclusive venue and do right by their students and families who have already sacrificed and supported to reach this academic pinnacle. Sign this petition to call for change in our convocation arrangements. Let’s ensure every loved one has the chance to gather and celebrate our hard-earned achievements together.
