I am a student at Limestone University, having moved from Michigan to pursue my degree. This path was greatly facilitated by the athletic financial aid I receive. However, the recent news of the campus closing with little notice has put my academic future in jeopardy, as well as the futures of countless others. For students like me, who are a mere 4 classes or less away from completing our degrees, this sudden upheaval is both disheartening and detrimental.

Limestone University’s decision to close its campus not only disregards the significant financial investment made by students but also the personal sacrifices we’ve endured to reach this near-final stage of our education. Many of us have uprooted our lives, moved across states, and relied on financial aid plans to get to this point. Now, left in limbo, our dreams of graduating and the security associated with having a degree are at serious risk.

The lack of adequate notice regarding campus closure creates a severe disadvantage, particularly for those in good academic standing like myself. We have planned our academic journey meticulously, believing that the institution would support us through to graduation. The sudden financial burden and the loss of athletic financial aid make it nearly impossible to continue under these unforeseen circumstances without tremendous hardship.

There is a viable solution to extend fairness and justice to students in this predicament. By granting degrees to those who are in good academic standing and who only have four or less classes to complete this upcoming semester, the university can uphold its commitment to its students’ educational pursuits and respect the substantial investments already made.
