I am a homeowner who, like many others, has experienced the overwhelming power that Homeowners Associations (HOAs) can hold over our neighborhoods. While not all HOAs are detrimental, it is crucial that every member should have a say in whether or not an HOA should exist in their neighborhood.

Currently, there is no legal requirement for members of an HOA to vote on the existence of their local association. This lack of regulation allows some associations to wield too much power without proper checks and balances. According to the Community Associations Institute (CAI), there are over 351,000 homeowners associations in the United States as of 2020. This means millions of Americans could potentially be affected by these organizations without having a say in their governance.

This petition seeks to instate a law requiring all members within an HOA jurisdiction to vote on whether they wish to maintain or dissolve their local association. By doing so, we can ensure that homeowners have more control over their living environments and prevent any potential abuses from unchecked authority.
