Title: Require Internal Affairs To Collect Victim Evidence — No More 'Cannot Prove Nor Disprove'

Internal Affairs must be required to collect the evidence survivors offer. 

After a Metro officer released my abuser despite hearing and active threat he made against my immediate physical safety, I reported the incident to Internal Affairs.

I told IA that I had video evidence showing the officer was fully aware of the fact my abuser had just made a threat against my immediate physical safety.

But I was never given a way to submit the evidence I offered.

They close the case with a cannot prove nor disprove letter - without ever reviewing the proof I offered.

This is a systemic evidence-handling failure that harms survivors and protects misconduct.

 No case should be closed simply because IA never collected the evidence the victim tried to provide about a Metro officer's handling of a situation that placed them in immense fear of their immediate physical safety.

As a result of my abuser's release from handcuffs, I found myself hiding under a plastic kitchen table in fear of my life praying he wouldn't know I was there (where I was staying at the time) while I watched 90% of my personal property get stolen.

This could have been avoided had he been arrested for the active threat he made right in front of Metro to my physical safety.

It was my hope that IA would review my evidence and use that to make a better judgment call in regards to how the officer in question handled the situation.

Unfortunately , as a result of no mandatory arrest policy for active threats made in front of a Metro officer (I have another petition going for this necessary change) my abuser learned he can say whatever he wants whenever he wants and not have to worry about anything, whereas a survivor's life is twist turned upside-down.

No survivor should have to go through any of this which is why I am demanding Internal Affairs adopt the following changes.

What needs to change:

- IA must be required to request, collect, and securely store any evidence a victim or survivor says they have to back their claim(s).

- IA must document all offered evidence and provide a clear and secure submission method.

- Cases cannot be closed as 'cannot prove nor disprove' when evidence was offered but never reviewed.

Survivors deserve a fair investigation.

Evidence deserves to be seen.
