Require Insurance Companies to Cover Essential Medical Costs for Patients

The Issue

My personal journey with healthcare costs began when I suffered a career-ending ACL tear. After the devastating news, the reality hit me. Not only was my dream taken away, but I was also burdened with the expense of a brace, gloves the doctors used, and other necessary equipment. All these were crucial to my recovery, yet I had to pay out of pocket. This is a story that is, unfortunately, all too familiar to millions of Americans.

According to the American Journal of Public Health, about 530,000 families each year are experiencing bankruptcies that are linked to illness or medical bills. A 2018 study also showed that 4.5 million adults reported that they or a family member have been bankrupted by medical costs. Furthermore, a 2019 report from the U.S Census Bureau states that as many as 27.5 million people do not have health insurance.

We need insurance companies to take responsibility and revise their policies. They must cover these small but vital costs that patients incur during their treatment and recovery processes. This won't just aid individual financial situations but will also show compassion and understanding towards those in need.

Keeping this in mind, we are calling for an immediate review and revision of these insurance policies. Let's ensure that no more individuals like myself are made to bear this financial burden when they are at their most vulnerable. Please sign and support our call for a more humane healthcare system.
