I lost my beloved cat, Ollee, due to a tragic and completely avoidable situation. Ollee needed an urgent blood transfusion, a procedure that could have saved his life. We need legislation that mandates veterinary clinics to provide immediate life-saving stabilization care for pets in emergencies, without the requirement of upfront payment.

Veterinary care is as crucial for pets as medical care is for humans. Just as human hospitals render necessary life-saving services before addressing payment details, so should veterinary clinics. To support veterinary professionals and ensure this practice does not place a financial burden on them, we propose establishing a state-funded reimbursement system. This system would ensure that veterinarians are fairly compensated for the emergency care services they provide.

Such a program would mirror the way human hospital funding operates, offering a safety net for both pets and their owners, while valuing the work of veterinary professionals. Injuries and illnesses cannot wait for financial transactions. Lives should be prioritized over monetary considerations, especially when the capability for treatment is present.

We must act now to require veterinary clinics to prioritize animal lives in emergencies, and to institute a system that offers feasible solutions for all parties involved: pet owners, veterinary professionals, and the pets themselves.
