Six months ago, my life changed drastically due to an unforeseen tragedy - our water line was damaged by the local government's road-widening project. Instead of fresh running water conveniently available at our tap, my day starts and ends with juggling jugs of water from a source 40nm away. An arduous task that severely impacts my ability to study or even function normally, at this age when learning ought to be my top priority.

Our situation is not isolated. According to recent data from the World Health Organization, over 2 billion people worldwide lack access to safely managed drinking water services, a basic human necessity (WHO, 2019). What makes our predicament deplorable is that it was imposed upon us by a local infrastructure project, a modern initiative that indirectly took us back to primitive times.

The local government body responsible for the road widening project has to repair the damaged water line and restore our access to safe and consistent water supply. The negligence being shown for the past half a year is unacceptable and infringes upon our basic rights.
