I have given my blood and sweat to earn my degree at IIT Kanpur, and like many others, I eagerly await the moment when I can proudly walk across the stage to receive it in-person. Unfortunately, the current convocation date of 15 July conflicts with my job onboarding week, which runs from 13 July to 21 July. This overlap poses a significant challenge, not only for me but for many students who have job commitments starting around the same time.

The period after completing our studies should be a momentous occasion, marking the transition from academic life to professional careers. Instead, we are forced to choose between attending our convocation and fulfilling professional obligations. This dilemma undermines the significance of graduation for those who have tirelessly worked to reach this pivotal milestone in their lives.

Given these circumstances, we urge the administration of IIT Kanpur to consider preponing the convocation to suitable date in June. This adjustment would ensure that graduates can partake in this important ceremony without compromising their professional responsibilities. By making this change, IIT Kanpur would be supporting students' transitions from academia to their future workplaces smoothly and respectfully.

Preponing the convocation aligns with the institution's commitment to student welfare and professional success. It respects the aspiration of each graduate to celebrate their achievements alongside their peers and mentors, fostering a sense of belonging and accomplishment. Many prestigious institutions across the globe adjust schedules to accommodate such transitional needs of their alumni, and IIT Kanpur should be no different.
