Require Grand Junction City to Remove Poles and Halt Future Installations Downtown

The Issue

Navigating the downtown area of Grand Junction, Colorado, by automobile is becoming increasingly difficult, and threatening to both the safety and livelihoods of its residents due to an unbelievable number of poles lining the streets. As residents of Grand Junction, we have observed a concerning trend of narrowing streets, starting on Fourth and Fifth Street between Main Street and North Avenue- all because of these poles.

In their attempt to make the downtown area safer for bicycle riders, the City of Grand Junction has made it much more unsafe for local drivers.  Slowing the flow of traffic would be better accomplished with the use of speed-bumps or traffic circles - not by narrowing already narrow streets.

Amid the usual snowfall that our city experiences, these poles will pose a dangerous threat. They will make it impossible for snow plows to navigate through to clear the roads. Not only is it a threat to the safety of residents trying to navigate these roads, but it will also greatly affects our local small businesses. With difficult roads to navigate, many people will choose to avoid it altogether, causing our local economy to suffer.

Our appeal is simple: we are asking the city of Grand Junction to remove all poles on Fourth and Fifth Streets between Main Street and North Avenue, as well as the poles that are blocking the right turn lane from Grand Avenue onto Fourth Street, and halt future plans for the installation of any more poles on other downtown streets or any other plans that would narrow these streets. The wellbeing of our town and people must come first. We believe this move can ensure a safer and more prospering Grand Junction for all of us. Please sign this petition to protect Grand Junction residents and businesses from the threats posed by these needless poles.
