I am writing this petition because I am deeply concerned with the lack of transparency and adherence to established procedures in the recent Student Government Association (SGA) elections at Southern University. It has come to my attention that the Elections Committee, which is designated to oversee the election process, does not have control over the distribution or final issuance of ballots to the student body.

This morning, an email was sent to students containing a ballot that was not under the authority or control of the Elections Committee. This is a clear violation of the Election Code, which is meant to ensure fair and transparent elections. It is unacceptable that the Division of Student Affairs has not demonstrated the same level of adherence to established procedures, compromising the integrity of our student governance system.

There have been multiple documented violations of the Election Code that have been ignored by this office. I, along with many others, am frustrated by the lack of accountability and transparency. It is imperative that the university take immediate action to address these issues and ensure that the SGA elections are conducted fairly and transparently.

We propose a detailed and transparent process where the Elections Committee is fully responsible for distributing and collecting ballots, as well as monitoring any potential violations. This would include publishing all election procedures, timelines, and results in a publicly accessible manner, ensuring that all involved parties adhere to the Election Code.

I urge Southern University to uphold the principles of fairness and transparency, values that are foundational to any democratic process.
