This is a call for equality and confidence for any menstruating person.
Women constitute 51% of the UK's population, yet easy access to sanitary products in public bathrooms remains a privilege rather than a right. Scotland has already set a precedent with their landmark bill ensuring free sanitary products in public places—so why can't we extend this necessary privilege throughout England, Wales, and Northern Ireland?
Menstruation is a natural process that should never be a source of shame or inconvenience. Many women experience irregular periods during their first few months of menarche, with conditions such as PMOS (PCOS) as well as during perimenopause. For those who suffer from unexpected or irregular cycle bleeding, having access to free sanitary products can mean the difference between confidence and profound embarrassment.
Providing free sanitary napkins and tampons in all public restrooms is not merely a gesture of goodwill—it is a practical solution to support women’s health and well-being. Ensuring access to these essential products empowers women and young girls by promoting inclusivity and dignity.
