In recent years, the effectiveness of the leadership and decisions made by UK Cabinet Ministers has come under increasing scrutiny. Consequently, it becomes imperative to ensure that those appointed to ministerial positions possess the necessary skills and insights to guide their departments effectively.

To rectify this issue, I propose an essential reform: all Cabinet Ministers must have proven professional experience or recognised expertise in the areas they govern. This requirement can be implemented through a formal evaluation process where prospective ministers showcase their qualifications and understanding related to the ministry’s focus.
