Require epilepsy first-aid training in all schools

Require epilepsy first-aid training in all schools
The Issue
As someone living with epilepsy, I know personally the fear and uncertainty that come with each day. It's not just about personal safety; it's about ensuring those around me are prepared and knowledgeable. That's why I'm calling for a crucial change: the implementation of epilepsy first-aid training in all schedules, whether in schools, camps, workplaces, or any structured program.
Every year, 1 in 26 people will be diagnosed with epilepsy, and over 3.4 million Americans are currently living with this condition. Unfortunately, there's a significant knowledge gap when it comes to handling a seizure emergency. Many people aren't aware of what to do, or they're misinformed, which can lead to unnecessary harm or distress during these critical moments.
Epilepsy first-aid is straightforward yet lifesaving. Training includes staying calm, making the environment safe, timing the seizure, protecting the person’s head, and importantly, knowing when to call for emergency assistance. This knowledge can make a world of difference in ensuring safety and reducing potential injuries.
By incorporating this training into the schedules of staff, parents, and children, we can prioritize real education over mere awareness. It not only empowers those with epilepsy by ensuring their safety but also educates the community to respond compassionately and effectively.
Join me in urging our educational institutions, workplaces, and communities to embed epilepsy first-aid training into their schedules. This proactive step is vital for creating a supportive and informed community, where every individual feels safe and understood.
Sign this petition to advocate for an environment that prioritizes safety over awareness. Let's move from conversation to action and ensure the well-being of everyone living with epilepsy. Your support can lead to change. Please sign today.
