Require dedicated loading zones in all Hud housing parking areas

The Issue

Myself and my neighbor face an ongoing challenge: we have no access to a designated parking space that would allow us to be picked up by a wheelchair medical transport van. This situation leaves us stranded, unable to leave the property to attend essential doctor appointments or go shopping. Living in a wheelchair accessible apartment should mean that we have reasonable accommodations to facilitate our mobility, yet our requests for a single loading zone space have been repeatedly denied by HUD manager especially the upper management who has repeatedly refused us access to a parking space.

Imagine needing to see a doctor but having no means to get there. This is our reality, and it's not only unfair but a violation of our rights. Wheelchair users should not have to fight for the basic necessity of transportation access, especially for something as critical as medical care. It's imperative that housing providers acknowledge and act upon the needs of their residents with disabilities.

Designating just one parking space as a "No Parking – Loading Zone" in each parking area would make a world of difference. This space would allow wheelchairs to be safely loaded and unloaded, ensuring residents have the freedom and dignity to carry out daily activities that others take for granted. This is called reasonable accommodation, and it’s a standard that should already be in place.

It is not an unreasonable demand but rather a necessary step towards inclusivity and respect for all residents in our community. Ensuring all Hud  housing properties implement dedicated loading zones would set a precedent not only for us but for countless others in similar situations.

We urge HUD  housing to reassess their policies and honor the rights of their residents by introducing dedicated loading spaces. Please sign this petition to support accessible housing and help us and others gain the freedom we desperately need to live independently and with dignity.
