The Issue

Last year, my heart stopped when I witnessed a driver almost hit one of my class mates who was  on a scoter  And their was no  cross guard in site. This terrifying experience motivated me to take action to protect my fellow students  and prevent potential tragedies. Across the Bay Area, there are countless crosswalks used daily by students that lack proper supervision, leaving them vulnerable to the negligence of drivers who may be distracted by their phones or simply not paying attention. **Over 6,000 pedestrians were killed in the U.S. in 2021 alone, with many of these victims being children.**

We cannot stand by and wait for a tragedy to occur before we decide to act. It is our responsibility to ensure that every child can safely walk to and from school. One effective measure we can immediately implement is to require all schools in the Bay Area to have dedicated cross guards stationed near every student-used crosswalk.

Cross guards are a proven safety measure, greatly reducing accidents by calmly and effectively managing pedestrian and vehicular traffic in school zones. According to the National Center for Safe Routes to School, schools with active cross guard programs have seen a substantial decrease in pedestrian injuries. I know it would potentially cost us more taxes but i think our safety is worth the cost.

I urge school districts, local councils, and community leaders across the San Francisco Bay Area to prioritize this initiative and allocate necessary resources for the hiring and training of cross guards. Our  safety should never be compromised due to lack of supervision or funding.

Please join me in demanding that every school in the Bay Area take urgent action to protect our students. Signing this petition pressures local decision-makers to prioritize this critical safety enhancement and ensure our children are kept out of harm's way.

Sign the petition today to voice your support for safer streets for our kids. Together, we can make a difference and guarantee peace of mind for parents, teachers, and all community members.
