Require Consent for Public Photography

Require Consent for Public Photography
The Issue
My fight for this cause has always been personal. I do not consider myself to embody typical beauty standards, consistently feeling the societal pressure that accompanies it. Everyday, I live with a fear embedded deep inside me - the fear of being photographed without my consent. Public spaces should promote safety and respect for individual's privacy, no matter one's appearance. Yet, in the world we live in, public photography without consent has become an invasive reality that many of us have been forced to accept.
Photography, being a widely accessible tool, is capable of both capturing precious moments and infringing privacy rights. Peeping Toms in the United States, for instance, can face criminal charges for taking non-consensual photographs in private spaces, but what about those instances in public places? (Source: American Civil Liberties Union). This issue doesn't just affect me, but something all "ugly" people must deal with and it's time for a change.
Our privacy rights should not be left at the mercy of anyone with a camera. We're calling this not just for ourselves, but for all those who've been made to feel invaded or uncomfortable due to non-consensual public photography. Join us in demanding legislation requiring consent for public photography. Sign the petition now, push for the respect and privacy that every individual rightfully deserves.
