For years, the sidewalk shed surrounding Con Edison's headquarters at 4 Irving Place has contributed to ongoing public safety, sanitation, and quality-of-life challenges on East 15th Street. The covered area has repeatedly become the site of unsafe and unsanitary conditions, creating concerns for residents, pedestrians and local businesses alike.

Con Edison has acknowledged that the shed will likely remain in place for several more years, yet it has not committed to a comprehensive plan to proactively manage the area and ensure it remains safe, clean, and accessible.

Our Request

We call on Con Edison to develop and publicly implement a proactive perimeter management plan that includes:

• Regular cleaning and sanitation
• Measures to keep sidewalks safe, accessible, and welcoming for everyone
• Ongoing maintenance and monitoring of the public space
• Clear accountability and communication with the surrounding community

As one of New York City's largest public utilities, Con Edison has a responsibility to ensure its property supports the health, safety, and well-being of the entire community.
