The Issue

Cheerleading has long been a cornerstone of school spirit and athleticism, yet within the Springfield City School District, the potential of our talented cheerleaders has not been fully realized. For too many years, cheerleading has remained on the sidelines when it comes to competition—a critical component that many cheerleaders dream of participating in. A spark of this potential was vividly displayed on January 11th, 2026, when two middle school cheerleading coaches led their teams to an Ohio State competition, securing both a 1st and a 3rd place title. This achievement eloquently demonstrates that our cheerleaders are more than capable of excelling on the competitive stage.

It's time we elevate our cheerleaders' experiences and set a new standard for cheerleading in our district. We propose a requirement for all cheerleaders from seventh grade through twelfth grade to attend at least one competition annually. This move will not only enhance their skills and confidence but also build camaraderie and sportsmanship as they support each other throughout the competitive journey.

To support this initiative, fundraising efforts will be organized to cover the costs of participating in competitions, ensuring that every cheerleader has the opportunity to shine. Coaches will be an essential part of this journey, attending competitions alongside their teams to provide guidance and encouragement.

We believe that engaging in competitions will motivate our cheerleaders to aim higher and dream bigger. It will foster a sense of pride and unity within our school community, as students work collectively to represent Springfield City with excellence.

Join us in advocating for this change. Sign this petition and help make competitive cheerleading a reality for our dedicated and talented cheerleaders within the Springfield City School District. Let's work together to make these dreams come true.
