Travel restrictions placed on individuals awaiting the outcome of their UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) applications can severely impact families facing medical crises. During this period, she was prevented from traveling to see her family despite her serious health challenges. Globally, several countries recognize the need for special consideration in immigration processes and have frameworks to accommodate those who are medically vulnerable. The UK can lead by example and demonstrate its commitment to humane immigration practices by establishing clear guidelines and processes.

The implementation of such mechanisms can include the provision of a temporary travel document or an interim decision on their application, thus striking a balance between regulated immigration controls and individual humanitarian needs.

It is time for UKVI to reconsider these existing protocols, ensuring they are not only robust but compassionate. No family should endure what Ma Sabrina's did. Let us come together to demand a more humane approach to immigration procedures that respects the reality of life and death situations.
