The Issue

Dear Reader, Teacher, Staff, Principal, or Student,

Carrying a heavy backpack with everything stuffed at once from class to class has become a big problem for a lot of students, including myself, in the Frisco Independent School District (FISD). It's not just about the physical discomfort; it's about the long-term health effects and the unnecessary strain placed on students who are already dealing with the pressures of schoolwork.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons recommends that a child's backpack should weigh no more than 10-15% of their body weight. Yet, many students in our district are carrying textbooks, laptops, sports gear, and more from classroom to classroom without the option to store them in lockers. This unnecessary burden can lead to back pain, posture problems, and other health issues, which can impact academic performance and overall well-being.

Doing so and giving lockers in for everyone in Frisco ISD would actually better help students carry less weight, and lockers would help FISD students become more organized, and separating books in either their locker or backpack

FISD has an opportunity to address this issue by ensuring that each school is equipped with dependable lockers for every student, and that they let every student have one and use it. It's a very easy solution that can be implemented with careful planning and a bunch of resources. By focussing the organization and health of students, FISD will demonstrate its commitment to creating a supportive and conducive learning environment.

We ask for FISD to take immediate action to install lockers in all schools across the district. This change will not only alleviate the daily burden on students but will also contribute to their long-term organization skills, health, and success.

You should sign this petition to support our change for bringing lockers in every FISD school, and help create a healthier, more organized, and more efficient learning environment for all students.
