Require Alabama Democratic Party to List Diversity Caucus Information on Website
Require Alabama Democratic Party to List Diversity Caucus Information on Website
The Issue
The Alabama Democratic Party (ADP) does not currently list or promote its Diversity Caucuses on the party's official website or in other communications.
We urge the ADP to acknowledge its Diversity Caucuses by including their contact information and related details there. This simple act will enhance visibility for these groups while promoting greater inclusivity within our party's ranks.
Similar to the County Chairs page [https://aldemocrats.org/county-chairs], we ask that the leadership of each Caucus
(Chair and Vice-Chair) be listed on a Caucuses page [https://aldemocrats.org/caucuses], along with available contact information, resources, and social media links, including:
- Email address
- Facebook page
- Instagram account
- Mailing address
- Meeting date / time / location
- Telephone number
- Twitter (X) account
- Website address
This would bring the ADP into practice with several other southeastern state Democratic parties:
- Florida [https://www.floridadems.org/our-party/caucuses/]
- South Carolina [https://scdp.org/our-party/scdp-caucuses/]
- Georgia [https://www.georgiademocrat.org/caucuses/]
- Tennessee [https://www.tndp.org/caucuses/]
A physical letter was sent to the ADP Chair and Executive Board in October 2023, requesting these additions to the website; no response was received.
As a stand-in, a Linktree page has been created to independently collect and provide this information: https://linktr.ee/aldemcaucuses
A main motivation for state parties to include Caucuses in their organization and communication strategy is for them to serve as
a point-of-entry for members of those constituency groups.
Having access to a diverse group of Democrats would make the ADP much more welcoming to newcomers, through fostering peer relationships. It also demonstrates a commitment to equity, and serves as a model of a more inclusive politics.
Elected members of the State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC) are responsible for representing their district in party affairs, informing people about the party, and encouraging involvement. These Caucuses are essential in that effort.
Every voice in Alabama should be heard and valued in our democratic process. There is no reason why this information shouldn't be available to everyone, direct and complete from the ADP. Please sign this petition to show your support.
