The Issue

I am writing this petition from a place of deep personal concern and frustration. My vehicle, due to the exorbitant parking fees at North Court, has been vandalised multiple times when I was forced to park in unsafe locations within the local area. These vandalism acts include aggressive notes left on my car with branches and pebbles, sand thrown over it, and even white paint splattered on its surface. It became a question of safety severe enough to involve the police.

Currently, North Court (Now Students) has a parking area for students however, it is a car park managed by Ocean Parking, Carlton House, Chester Business Park, Chester, CH4 9QE. The land itself is managed for a private landlord and responsibility of those whom are to be contacted is delegated amongst those mentioned.

It is understood that North Court and the car park are not affiliated with each other in terms of having no legal connection of the payment system and that parking notices and permits are charged to those who use the car park by Ocean Parking (whom manage this on behalf of the private landlord). However, there should be duty of care to those who live in their building and we would like for both Ocean Parking and North Court- Now students to hear our plea so that this may be seen by the private landlord.

Students are charged an astronomical £10 per day to park their vehicles, totalling an untenable £280 per month, which equivalates to over a twelve-month period, £3360. This rate is unreasonable and unjustifiable for students who are already burdened with tuition fees and living expenses. These exorbitant costs are driving students to seek unsafe parking alternatives, endangering their personal safety and that of their property.

We must take action to protect students' wellbeing and financial security. The solution is clear: the landlord should offer a more affordable and flexible parking permit option. This could involve a yearly or installment-based permit scheme, allowing students to pay a reasonable fee that aligns with their budgets.

Many other academic institutions provide cost-effective parking solutions tailored to students' needs. The landlord whom owns the car park at North Court must follow suit by adjusting the pricing model they depict to Ocean Parking, to reflect the financial realities of student life. By implementing a more reasonable pricing system, not only will students be able to park safely and securely, but they will also experience reduced stress and increased focus on their studies.

We call upon this private landlord, to reconsider their parking permit fees and adopt a model that accommodates students' financial capabilities. It is crucial to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students, allowing them to study and reside without the constant worry of vehicular vandalism or overwhelming financial pressure.

Please join me in advocating for a fair and reasonable parking policy for all students at North Court. Sign this petition to demand immediate change from the landlord. Together, we can make North Court a safer and more equitable place for all students.
