As a member of the LGBTQ community, I feel a deep duty to advocate for the rights of everyone to be able to use the restroom without fear. The anxiety and risks that transgender individuals face daily just by entering a bathroom are unacceptable. Every person deserves a safe and inclusive space to fulfill such a basic, personal need.

Incorporating gender neutral bathrooms in public areas is a crucial step towards ensuring safety and inclusivity. Transgender people, gender non-conforming individuals, and others who don't fit into the traditional binary gender categories often face harassment, discrimination, or violence in gender-segregated restrooms. According to a study by UCLA’s Williams Institute, about 70% of transgender respondents reported being denied access, verbally harassed, or physically assaulted in public restrooms. This statistic is horrifying and entirely preventable.

The solution lies in mandating the availability of gender neutral bathrooms in all public facilities. This change not only creates a safer environment for transgender and non-binary people but also supports families with young children and individuals with disabilities who may find such options more convenient.

Cities like New York and Austin have already demonstrated leadership in this area by implementing policies for gender neutral bathrooms in city-owned buildings. It's time for more places to follow suit—adopting this practice can set an example nationwide and reduce the stigma associated with using restrooms for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals.

Transgender rights are human rights. A seemingly small but significant step like providing accessible gender neutral bathrooms can lead to greater acceptance and safety for everyone, fostering an inclusive society where no one has to fear for their safety over a basic human need.

I started this petition because of the new law stating that trans women are no longer considered women, banning them from women’s spaces. 

if that is to be, then they deserve their own safe space.
