Data centers are notorious for their excessive energy consumption and heat generation. On average, they use about 10 to 50 times the energy per square foot of a typical commercial office building. In  Florida, we are facing serious climate-related challenges like increased hurricanes and sea level rise. The additional energy burden of data centers can contribute to even more greenhouse gas emissions and exacerbate these existing problems.

AI data centers contribute to noise pollution and require massive amounts of water for cooling, straining local resources. The compounded noise can be detrimental to both mental and physical health, leading to increased stress, sleep disturbances, and potential hearing loss. At a time when access to clean water is becoming increasingly critical, diverting large amounts for cooling purposes puts undue stress on municipal resources, affecting everyday life for residents, farmers, and other businesses.

Our communities deserve a say in the kind of future they want—a future that prioritizes health, safety, and environmental protection over unchecked technological growth. The Florida Legislature has the power to make this decision by issuing a statewide ban on all AI data centers, ensuring that we protect our communities and preserve our environment for generations to come.
