Require 24-Hour Notice for Medical Procedures

Require 24-Hour Notice for Medical Procedures
The Issue
I have had multiple appointments where the procedure they are wanting to do is only mentioned moments before it is going to take place. This puts the patient in a difficult position and makes them more likely to just accept the procedure, so that they do not cause an inconvenience. This can lead to unwanted procedures being performed on a person's body, and can even lead to mild trauma in occasions of a painful or triggering experience. Patients need to have enough time to make a decision.
Requiring health professionals or those performing procedures to communicate all potential procedures at least 24 hours before an appointment would ensure patients are fully informed and able to consent without feeling pressured. According to studies by the American Medical Association, informed consent is crucial for patient autonomy and satisfaction (source: AMA Journal of Ethics). Sign this petition if you believe patients deserve adequate time and information before any medical procedure! This includes ultrasounds, blood draws, MRI’s, x-rays, etc. anything that is being done to your body. If the doctor is not sure what procedures may be done during an appointment then they must communicate what may be done, how, and why. This would help to ensure informed consent. If a patient feels pressured to have a procedure done, they are not necessarily giving consent. Patient consent must be a top priority.
