Requesting equitable treatment, opportunity for exam retake, grade curving at ICHS

Requesting equitable treatment, opportunity for exam retake, grade curving at ICHS
The Issue
As students of the International College of Health Sciences (ICHS) semester of Medical Surgical Nursing I class, we seek fair treatment from the school authorities. This semester, we have experienced harsh treatment across various aspects, and we insist on a re-evaluation of our recently completed examinations for the following reasons:
1. Difficulty Level: The majority of students found the final exam to be excessively challenging, with questions that deviated from the expected difficulty level based on the course material and preparation.
2. Impact on Performance: The difficulty of the exam has had a significant impact on student performance, causing undue stress and anxiety which may not accurately reflect their comprehension of the subject matter.
3. Departure from Expectations: Several questions on the exam seemed to address topics or concepts that were not adequately covered in the course material, leading to confusion and unease among students.
4. Representation of Learning: We believe that the difficulty of the exam does not effectively represent the depth of our learning and understanding throughout the course, potentially undermining the integrity of the assessment process.
5. Request for Review: We respectfully request a comprehensive review of the final exam by a faculty committee, with the aim of assessing the validity of the questions and their alignment with the course curriculum and learning objectives.
Furthermore, the med-surg I exam 1 had a low class average, with a significant portion of the material never being taught or addressed. The test contained numerous grammatical errors, making it challenging to grasp the intended requirements. Additionally, there were sections in the exam that were not covered in the textbook, and the final exam, being the last opportunity to pass the class, presented a similar situation. Ambiguous instructions in the final exam caused unnecessary confusion, hindering our ability to effectively showcase our understanding of the course material.
ICHS students primary goal is to see a change in the system,Given the substantial impact on both exam results, it is suggested that the passing grade be lowered to 70% ,possibility of removing specific questions for point adjustments or allowing us to retake the test. Retaking the test poses no challenges for us. In the previous semester, students who scored 70 or higher passed this class, and even those with a 69% managed to pass. We trust that every student will be treated justly through these proposed adjustments.
It seemed like the administration of the institution was simply interested in obtaining money from the students and encouraging exam failure. We are unable to accept this. We are looking for a just and equitable solution that preserves these principles and lessens the excessive load on students.
We appreciate your attention to this matter and hope for a timely and constructive response.Join this petition to call for transparent and equitable treatment from the Nursing department at the International College of Health Sciences. Additionally, share your experiences below, explaining why you support the request for an exam retake and grade curving before the next semester begins.
Sincerely,
ICHS students
