Requesting a Public Parole Hearing for Denise Holsinger which follows stated VA laws.
The Issue
I’ve known Denise Holsinger for years. We were incarcerated together—not once, but twice. I tripped and fell in the wrong direction, and there she was, urging me to pull myself up, to better myself. Each time I returned, and each time she was denied parole, she persisted, not wavering in her positivity and resolution. Denise’s unwavering spirit extended beyond herself, showering positivity on the many other fellow prisoners who,
like me, found themselves returning again and again.
Denise not only served her time but has notably become a model for reform. Her record is illustrative of an unyielding commitment to self improvement; complete with an exemplary conduct, a long work history and the exhausted utilization of every educational opportunity thrown her way. But despite this, the parole board has been unyielding.
These examinations are supposed to be public, with the majority of the parole board present, as per Va. Code 53.1-136. To our shock, Denise’s hearings have disregarded this clause. We are calling for a public parole hearing for Denise, one where the legal procedures are explicitly followed, as per Va. Code 53.1-136.
Through this petition, we seek transparent, fair, and public proceedings – an open examination of Denise’s case. We’re not just asking for Denise to be given just another hearing, but for her dedicated efforts to be genuinely considered and her life outside these concrete walls to be valued. Denise has already improved many lives within these walls. She deserves the opportunity to live life on the outside, where I truly believe she would be an asset to any community and give back a hundredfold. Please join us in requesting a public parole hearing for Denise Holsinger. Sign this petition!
