The Issue

As a concerned member of the Rustburg, VA community, I've watched with growing dismay as decisions made by the current athletic director at Rustburg High School have compromised both the well-being and development of our student athletes. This is truly personal for me, as I feel strongly that he hasn’t ensured the safety, well-being or mental health of our students. Our children deserve a leader who prioritizes their safety and fosters an environment where they can thrive and grow through sports.

Recently, several decisions and changes within Rustburg High's athletic programs have raised red flags among parents, athletes, and community members alike. The lack of transparency and questionable decisions have not only sparked concerns for the safety of our students but also affected their morale and mental health.
Furthermore, feedback from students and parents has consistently highlighted these issues, yet no substantive changes have been implemented to address them. The athletic director, someone entrusted with nurturing and guiding our future generations, should act as a role model and champion for student welfare. Sadly, this has not been our experience, leading us to question whether this leadership is in the best interest of our students and community.

We propose that the school administration closely examines the impact of these decisions and strongly considers appointing a director who is not only committed to excellence in athletics but is also deeply invested in the holistic development of our students.

By signing this petition, you lend your voice to a cause that seeks accountability and a brighter, safer future for the student athletes at Rustburg High. Let’s stand together to make a positive change for our children.
