I am an Ethiopian residing in Canada, and I find it deeply troubling that the Ethiopian Community of Toronto is misrepresenting our nation by displaying a non-Ethiopian flag. This act does not just offend me, but it also alienates the majority of Ethiopians in Toronto, quelling their engagement and diminishing the community's integrity.

Ethiopia, with its rich history and vibrant culture, has a flag that is internationally recognized, symbolizing unity, heritage, and national pride. However, the representation by the current Ethiopian Community of Toronto has deviated from this emblematic banner, choosing instead to display an unfamiliar flag. This decision excludes a significant portion of the Ethiopian diaspora, leading to a loss of trust and a sense of estrangement.

In recognition of these factors, I urge the Canadian government and pertinent authorities to enforce guidelines ensuring community organizations on Canadian soil represent their origins accurately. Uniting under the correct national flag will not only restore trust but also bolster community ties amongst Ethiopians residing in Canada.

By aligning the Ethiopian Community of Toronto's representation with international standards, we can promote inclusivity and honor the global identity of Ethiopians. It embodies the values of respect and adherence to international norms that Canada holds dear.
