The Issue

Living in the beautiful neighborhoods of Lakewood Ranch in Sarasota County, we are surrounded by the picturesque beauty of nature and thoughtfully designed structures. However, the current state of the Store-All Public Storage building, located at 1651 Sarasota Center Blvd, Sarasota, FL 34240, with its glaring bright orange exterior, disrupts the harmonious aesthetics of our community. Several neighborhoods, including LakeHouse Cove, Kingfisher Estates, Windward, Nautique, and others are all negatively impacted by the intrusive orange color.

The discordant color choice of the storage facility stands in stark contrast to the serene and cohesive design elements that define the area. A growing number of residents feel that the building's appearance detracts from our neighborhood's visual appeal and ambiance. This clash not only adversely affects the view of residents, but could also negatively impact property values and have repercussions on the overall image of our beautiful communities in Sarasota, FL.

According to the Sarasota Unified Development Code section 124-128 (a) (2-3), "the County's goal is to create and maintain a positive ambiance and community image...that will enhance the visual appearance of certain commercial development and the quality of life in Sarasota County." Sec 124-128 (a) (3) "[P]rojects that do not contribute to, or integrate with, the community in a positive manner can be detrimental to a communities image and sense of place." Sec 124-128 (a) (2). It is critical that Store-All Storage comply with the letter and spirit of the Sarasota Unified Development Code requiring commercial structures to "ensure that development and building design is sensitive to the specific site...including residential and non-residential uses in the surrounding area, and does not detract from the positive elements existing neighborhood characteristics." Sec 124-128 (a) (5) d.

This petition is a call to action for the owners of Store-All Storage to repaint portions of their building and buffer the building in accordance with the Sarasota Unified Development Code. By adhering to the community standards, they will not only contribute to the neighborhoods' charm but also respect the community's values and its residents' voices.

Join us in requesting the owners of Store-All Storage to harmonize their building with the local aesthetic regulations. Sign this petition to ensure our community maintains its beautiful appeal and continues to be a place we are proud to call home.
