The Issue
For years, my family and many others in our community have endured living in unsafe and unhealthy housing conditions managed by the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA). Our cries for help have consistently been overlooked, leaving us to navigate through dire situations without sufficient support.
In our first unit, persistent sickness plagued my family, only to later discover extensive black mold lurking behind the walls. Despite obvious signs of severe water damage, our concerns were brushed off as "just moisture." The kitchen sink was visibly pulling away from the wall, a clear indication of the mold and water damage festering behind it. Matters have not improved in our current living situation, where mold continues to be an issue, and our vehicles are frequently towed without reason. These are not isolated incidents but rather a chronic problem affecting multiple tenants within our community.
Our grievances center around S.C., the current SHRA Housing Representative responsible for managing tenant relations and addressing housing concerns. Numerous tenants have expressed dissatisfaction with her professionalism, communication, and lack of responsiveness, which seriously impacts the quality and safety of our living conditions.
We are calling for a formal review of S.C's performance and interactions with tenants. This review should assess her adherence to expected professional standards and her effectiveness in fulfilling her responsibilities to us, the tenants. Furthermore, based on the findings, we urge SHRA to consider appointing a new representative who can adequately address the critical needs of our community.
Our community deserves proactive engagement, respectful communication, and tangible solutions to the challenges we face. It's imperative that SHRA upholds its responsibility to ensure safe, healthy, and supportive living environments for all tenants.
