Request Redlands to relocate Halloween event from Olive Ave

Request Redlands to relocate Halloween event from Olive Ave
The Issue
I have lived on Olive Ave in Redlands for 6 years, and have always cherished the sense of community and tranquility that our neighborhood offers. However, every year, the city's decision to hold the annual Halloween event on Olive Ave has turned our peaceful homes into a site of chaos and disruption. This event, while fun for participants, has far-reaching consequences for residents that cannot be overlooked.
The annual Halloween event attracts over 6,000 trick-or-treaters, leading to significant foot traffic and congestion in our small residential area. As residents, we are confined to our homes from 12pm to 10pm because our street is closed off. We face a relentless influx of people trampling on our properties, damaging plants, and leaving behind excessive trash. Personally, I have had to replace numerous expensive plants due to this unwelcome intrusion.
Even beyond the physical damage, the emotional strain is undeniable. Residents feel compelled to hand out candy for hours on end, shouldering the weight of over six thousand eager children. The joyful spirit of the holiday is overshadowed by the overwhelming obligation we feel to participate.
It's time for the city of Redlands to reconsider holding this event on Olive Ave and explore more suitable, less disruptive locations. There are other public venues or parks within our city that could accommodate such large crowds without imposing upon residential neighborhoods.
By signing this petition, you're not only supporting the well-being and peace of local residents but also advocating for a more enjoyable, organized event experience for all. Help us reclaim the serenity of our neighborhood and ensure that Halloween can be celebrated without undue distress, for both participants and residents. We urge the city council to take immediate action and find a viable alternative location for future events.
Please sign this petition to make a change that respects the rights and comfort of Olive Ave residents and enhances the overall quality of the event for everyone involved.
