After nearly two decades of residing in a virtually secluded, wooded, and private primarily residential neighborhood in PennForest Township, I am witnessing the allure that brought me here eroding as the market becomes saturated with Short-Term Rentals (STRs). This pristine area, meant for peaceful living, is being disrupted by the influx of STRs that prioritize transient visitors over the long-term tranquility of full-time residents.

As a local bartender for 14 years, I have listened to the concerns of many customers who echo my sentiment. We are all in agreement that we are losing the very essence of what brought us to this beautiful area. The peace, the quiet, and the sense of community are being overshadowed by the disruptive nature of constant turnover and lack of consideration.

Multiple complaints and requests have been filed regarding this issue, but they have been to no avail. It has become imperative that we take action now to preserve the sanctity of our neighborhoods in Jim Thorpe and Albrightsville. These towns have been known for their serene environments, attracting residents who wish to escape the chaos of city life. However, with the rising number of STRs, the very essence of our towns is at risk.

We are urging PennForest Township officials to amend the current STR ordinances, including both licensing and zoning regulations. By implementing stricter controls, we can ensure that the quality of life for full-time residents is not compromised. Potential solutions may include limiting the number of STRs allowed in residential areas, enforcing stricter noise and occupancy regulations, and ensuring that STR operators are held accountable to the same standards as traditional residences.
