Per Ohio Revised Code, Section 3745.01 | Environmental protection agency created - powers - duties:
“The agency, under the supervision of the director, shall administer the laws pertaining to chemical emergency planning, community right-to-know, and toxic chemical release reporting; the cessation of chemical handling operations; the prevention, control, and abatement of air and water pollution; public water supply; comprehensive water resource management planning; products that contain mercury as defined in section 3734.61 of the Revised Code; and the disposal and treatment of solid wastes, infectious wastes, construction and demolition debris, hazardous waste, sewage, industrial waste, and other wastes. The director may do all of the following:
(A) Provide such methods of administration, appoint such personnel, make such reports, and take such other action as may be necessary to comply with the requirements of the federal laws and regulations pertaining to chemical emergency planning, community right-to-know, and toxic chemical release reporting; air and water pollution control; public water supply; water resource planning; and waste disposal and treatment;”
We, the undersigned, request the Director of the Ohio Environmental Agency (OEPA) establish open public forums for each new permitting and/or re-issue of established permitting so that the public can be informed and pose questions on the facilities that are affecting our everyday lives.
We, the citizens, have brought these facilities and their issues to OEPA since 2016. We have filed complaints (over 500 per OEPA), sent emails (thousands), placed phone calls (too many to count) and had 1 in-person meeting (that was only granted once we contacted Governor DeWine’s office) with OEPA since 2016 and while we have seen some movement on regulating this industry, we, as citizens, wish to be part of the solution to ensure we all can exist in harmony. We hope that Renergy/Dovetail/Emerald and their entities will do the right thing and be the good neighbor that they have claimed to be and make our living environment better for everyone concerned.
According to your own website “The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is a state agency whose goal is to protect the environment and public health by ensuring compliance with environmental laws.” We look forward to the open forums that OEPA reestablishes to ensure our communities are safe and provide a contusive environment to work, live and raise our families.
