**Petition to the City of Cerritos for More Permanent Pickleball Courts**

Cerritos residents are facing a growing challenge when it comes to accessing pickleball courts. As this popular sport continues to gain traction, the existing temporary converted pickleball courts are unfortunately not meeting the demand. These courts are often overcrowded, leading to long wait times and limited play opportunities for both new enthusiasts and seasoned players alike.

Pickleball offers numerous benefits, including promoting physical fitness, enhancing community ties, and supporting mental health. Many residents have expressed their interest in participating, yet are frequently discouraged by the lack of adequate facilities. Furthermore, an examination of current recreational facilities reveals that many tennis courts remain underutilized during off-peak hours.

Therefore, we respectfully propose that the City of Cerritos evaluate the potential to create more permanent pickleball courts. This could be accomplished by converting some of the underused tennis courts or by dedicating new spaces for this purpose. By doing so, the city would not only be catering to the growing interest in pickleball but also maximizing the utility of its recreational areas.

Statistics from Parks and Recreation Departments in other cities show that introducing dedicated pickleball courts significantly boosts community engagement. Cities like Huntington Beach and Santa Monica have successfully made transitions to accommodate pickleball, resulting in increased community satisfaction and recreational use.
