Request IISERs to Conduct At Least One Spot Round of Admission
The Issue
IISER aspirants of the year 2024 would like to request JAC for a spot admission round, so that students who messed up their application can have one more chance.
I cracked IAT 2024 with an EWS rank of 60, securing IISER Pune in round 1. I was supposed to be admitted into IISER Pune BS-MS 2024, when technical issues, related to Seat Acceptance Fee payment, out of my control cost me the opportunity. The flaw of a digital roadblock cost me the seat I had so painstakingly secured. My story is not singular. Hundreds of students like me, across the country, lost their seat due to technical glitches/crashes or mistakes in document verification.
We mailed the Joint Admission Committee (JAC), IISER Bhopal director and countless other important figures (deans, professors) from multiple IISERs asking for help, only to be ghosted by most. JAC has been uncooperative, replying with automated responses to everyone, or straight out ignoring us. I made a post about this on reddit (r/iiser) and a WhatsApp group by seniors from IISERs catering to help freshers and found at least 50 students in those groups alone facing the same issue. These are students who cracked a seat in some IISER and are academically deserving of that seat.
Some of my fellows have even been victim of the "Response-sheet scam" too, where the response sheets they got was riddled with inaccurate responses. JAC also never admitted to this issue.
But for now, I'd like to stick to my original request. The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) must implement a policy of conducting at least one spot round of admission. This will be an essential mechanism for accommodating students who, like me, faced unexpected hurdles at the time of admission. Drop year is ABSOLUTELY NOT a solution. The past weeks have been easily the worst weeks in our student life. Our mental health is not a joke.
This provision of spot round exists in many renowned institutions across the country, providing a safety-net to ensure such unforeseen circumstances don't entirely derail a student’s academic journey. This also tackles the problem of seat vacancy after many students leave IISERs to pursue MBBS/B.Tech in other institutes.
Join me in urging JAC and IISERs to implement this policy. Allow education to thrive despite technical glitches. Don't let bright prospects be dimmed due to a single bump on the road. Help us bring about this critical change. Please, sign and share this petition.
